IT’S CRAZINESS I TELL YOU!!
It’s been a couple of months since my last Fedsfedup, partially because of the loss of my dog, but mostly, because between the virus, the foolish decisions being made by our political leaders, the election, etc. I really have not been in the mood to write, especially trying to find something humorous in the world today. But believe it or not, with the help of our elected officials, I actually have a list of the most ridiculous and humorous things I have ever heard in just the past couple of weeks. Some would deem them political, however, they are not meant to be, but the absurdity of some of our politicians are remarkable, so allow me to mention a few:
Thanksgiving/Christmas- Rules of the holiday. No more than 10 people gathered at your table. Because 11 would be the cause of death. At that gathering you must wear a mask, even while you eat. Governor Newsome suggests that the mask stay on between bites. And let’s not forget, “NO SHOUTING” That could kill your neighbor. This is all while the fine Governor dines at a Michelin rated restaurant, with no mask, and the liquor bill was over $6000. This going on as he enforces the businesses in his state to be shut down. BTW, this same restaurant miraculously received 1.5mm in PPP support with our tax payers money.
Pay People to stay home– An ingenious idea by AOC as she felt that this would keep people home for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Someone voted for her?????????
Arrest restaurant owners who are trying to earn money and feed their families while the same governors are allowing prisoners with felonies out for fear that they may get Covid in jail. The crime rate in most of these cities have doubled.
Mayor Dum Blasio demands that we call the police, who he defunded by over a billion Dollars, if we site a holiday gathering that is over 10 people. Squeal on thy neighbor, I believe that was the 11th commandment.
Strip Joints in San Diego are allowed to be opened, but restaurants cannot be open. I wonder if the strip joints serve food. Strip Steak anyone?
Your First Lady: DR Jill Biden- Received her “DR” degree in Education, from University of Delaware. Now don’t get me wrong, as I am sure she worked hard on that degree, however, the amusing part is in her doctoral thesis, which apparently she forgot to apply her math skills, she wrote the following: “of the 159 students surveyed, 55 received financial aid; 41 pay their own tuition bills; 45 students’ parents pay; 3 spouses pay; 9 receive scholarships;… to read further in her thesis, she describes a typical classroom ethnicity, which again shows that math is not her fine suit. “..Three quarters of the class will be Caucasian, one quarter of the class will be African American, one seat will have a Latin and the remaining seats will be filled with Asian descent or nonresidential students…” Not that this is not already humorous, but in defense of her, Woopie Goldberg, another outstanding role model, nominated her for Surgeon General. Similar to me being asked to coach a women’s volleyball team because I play Words with Friends.
And last but not least, our favoriteEmmy award winning Governor Cuomo. Just finished writing a book about himself and how wonderful a job he did to fight off the Covid. New York leads the country in deaths, cases and the most closed businesses. He single handedly killed over 7000 of our elderly from a mandate he issued enforcing Covid patients back into nursing homes, causing death all around us. Nothing funny so far? He just awarded himself a $30000 raise, making him the highest paid governor in the country. Not bad for a murderer. Now that is funny.
Enough of the lunacy and now for some observations in my world:
THE STRAW: As you can see from the picture above, I am a bit confused. I am all for saving the environment but can someone please explain this picture. The straw, which you cannot tell, is made of the finest paper. I actually do believe I still have parts of this straw stuck to my bottom lip. So here I was , sipping my delicious soda through the paper straw, stuck to my lip, wondering why the rest of the cup and lid, clearly made out of the same plastic that the straw is, is acceptable, yet the straw is a menace to our society. Does the poison I am drinking dissolve the cup and lid but not the straw? Can someone make any sense of this?
Health Insurance: I am to be congratulated as I just met my deductible for my health insurance. I was so excited when I got the news because I figured I reached some type of milestone. But then I stopped and wondered why people get so excited when they reach their deductible amount. Doesn’t it also mean that you have been so unhealthy this year that you were forced to go to see doctors, which allowed you to reach such a prestigious milestone?
STAY SAFE– Ahhh, the latest in phrases that we are still permitted to say. How many times recently have you been told to “Stay Safe” or “Be careful out there?” Surely it is a nice gesture, however, why state the obvious. Why not say “watch out for the oncoming train” or “be careful of flying bullets.”
Minimum Wage: I was always brought up to understand that the harder you work, the opportunities would be boundless and you will be rewarded. Yes, the foundation of a capitalistic society. But of course there are some that need a bit of a push to make more money in order to coexist. Therein lies the minimum wage. It really was designed to protect people from being taken advantage of in the workforce, but in actuality, it forces owners of businesses to deplete whatever remaining bottom line they have left, after the government takes 40 percent in taxes. Shame on the business owners for taking the risk of owning his/her own business, employing people, and servicing the public. Why should they do all of that and make money too. So our fine government has levied laws increasing minimum wage to levels that will put most small businesses out of business. So those people making minimum wage, will now go on unemployment, food stamps and lose their dignity and self-esteem. But in the meantime, one would expect that if the recipient of the minimum wage gets an 8-12% increase an hour, they would perhaps work a bit harder. Am I asking too much to expect this? Last week, on our biweekly trip to Connecticut to see my daughter and beautiful children, we stopped at Dunkin Donuts. I ordered a hot caramel latte and a hot coffee with just milk. After paying about $20 for 2 cups of coffee, we drove off. One would expect perfection, as the order seemed quite simple. The caramel latte had no caramel and was cold, and my coffee would have put a diabetic into a coma from all the sugar that was in it. If that person behind the counter isn’t worth $15.00 an hour, I don’t know who is. The following week, we were looking for some Christmas ornaments in Bloomingdales. Of course no one was to be seen that could help us, so we went over to a” lovely lady” and asked her if they had any more of a particular item. “NO” was the answer as I interrupted her cell phone tweet. I immediately put my ballot in for her for employee of the month. Do you remember the days when a worker would say, “No but let me check in the back for you”, or “how about this item instead” , or “would you like me to call another store for you”? This was not on her agenda. The good news is that she was able to refocus and go back to her very important tweet. I say, give her a raise for going out on a limb for the company.
DEDICATION: In closing, I would like to dedicate this chapter of Fedsfedup to my beautiful daughter Alesha. Aside from being an amazing Mom, wife and daughter, she is also an Occupational Therapist working with our most vulnerable population. Amazingly, she has yet to take a day off since Covid began and most recently received the vaccination. Now call me a skeptic, but I am still up in the air regarding the safety of this vaccination, as I trust no one, especially politicians, our leading Doctors, specifically the ones we are supposed to listen to on a daily basis, or the pharmaceutical companies who stand to make billions of dollars on these vaccines. So I asked her what possessed her to take the vaccination. And her answer was that of certainty and conviction. It was not to protect her own safety, nor was she concerned about the side effects they may have, but she received it selflessly to protect the people she cares for. That to me, is a true HERO and makes me believe that because of people like her, there is a light at the end of this ugly tunnel we are living in. Happy New Year everyone.
